The Enemy of FOMO: Embracing Your Best Life in Christ

The world constantly screams one message at us: You’re missing out.

Scroll social media for five minutes and you’ll see it. Bigger houses. Better bodies. More money. More success. More freedom. More pleasure. The enemy has mastered the art of making sin look exciting and surrender look restrictive.

That’s the lie of FOMO.

And Satan has been using it since the Garden of Eden.

His strategy has always been the same: convince people that obedience to God is holding them back. He whispers, “If you fully surrender to Jesus, you’ll lose your freedom. You’ll miss out on fun. You’ll miss out on the life you really want.”

But the truth is the exact opposite.

Life without God is not freedom—it’s bondage dressed up as pleasure. The enemy promises satisfaction, but leaves people empty, anxious, addicted, exhausted, and spiritually dry. Sin will always overpromise and underdeliver.

Jesus doesn’t take life from you. He gives real life to you.

When you surrender to Christ, you are not losing—you are gaining everything that actually matters. Peace. Purpose. Joy. Identity. Freedom. Eternal life. You were bought with a price through the blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:20), and what He purchased for you is infinitely greater than anything this world could offer.

The enemy wants you to believe holiness is boring. But there is nothing boring about walking with God. There is nothing empty about living filled with the Holy Spirit. Nothing in the world compares to being close to Jesus.

Psalm 1 paints the picture beautifully. The person rooted in God is like a tree planted by streams of water—stable, fruitful, flourishing, unshaken. While the world chases temporary highs, God offers a life deeply rooted in peace and purpose.

Jesus said in John 15:5 that He is the Vine and we are the branches. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. The abundant life we’re searching for will never be found in chasing culture, success, relationships, money, or temporary pleasure. It is only found by abiding in Him.

The enemy markets rebellion as freedom, but it only leads to emptiness. Jesus calls us into surrender, and somehow in that surrender we discover the life we were actually created for.

The truth is this:

You are not missing out by following Jesus.
You are missing out if you don’t.

God’s plans for you are good. His presence is better than anything the world could offer. His peace is deeper. His joy is fuller. His purpose is eternal.

So reject the lie of FOMO today.

Stop looking back at the world God called you out of. Stop romanticizing the very things Jesus died to free you from. Right believing leads to right living. Stay rooted in God’s Word. Walk closely with the Holy Spirit. Delight yourself in the presence of God.

Because the real best life isn’t found in the world.
It’s found in Jesus.
